EGGS: SUPERFOOD TO NOURISH THE WORLD!

World Egg Day is Here Again! As a day set aside to celebrate one of the world’s most prolific SUPERFOODS, it is a day dedicated to spreading the good news about the egg, promoting its excellent health benefits and versatility throughout the world.

It is estimated that in today’s world. A billion people are underfed and undernourished, and this statistic is going to worsen over the next 40 years as the global population increases by an estimated 3 billion individuals. Unfortunately, the impact of this dire statistic will be most felt in Africa, and particularly countries like Nigeria where the population is projected to reach about 400 million during this period. As the population increases, the demand for food will inevitably follow, creating the challenge of producing sufficient food to feed everybody.

This is where we have a role to play as egg producers. Over the next 40 year, the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization has estimated that meat production will have to grow by 75% to meet the demand for animal protein. However, eggs can rise to the challenge. Eggs offer an excellent alternative, and can provide a solution to this growing dilemma as they are a sustainable and relatively easy to produce food, with a low carbon footprint. They are also a high quality, remarkably nutritious and extremely affordable source of food protein. Listed as one of the World’s Healthiest Foods, and one of the 101 Foods That Can Save Your Life, eggs are actually considered the very best source of protein you can eat. In fact, egg protein is considered so high in quality that The World Health Organization (WHO) and other
public health authorities actually use eggs as their reference standard for evaluating the protein quality in all other foods.

As Egg producers, we have the unique obligation and opportunity to ensure that everyone in the world knows what we already know; that the unrivaled egg is an eggcellent, eggceptional, and affordable food with the remarkable and realistic potential to feed the world.

Health Organizations around the world are actively encouraging people to eat more eggs to ensure that they benefit from what is often considered nature’s vitamin pill, and we at Animal Care, as the producers of Funtuna Eggs, join voices with them to echo this clarion call. So let’s get cracking; let’s spread the good news. Remember, an egg a day may help keep the doctor away! So, let’s hear it for the incredible, edible egg!

We wish you all a happy World Egg Day.
